December at Urban Home Blog
Here are our plans for the festive month of December at
Urban Home Blog.
- On December 1, shroud one work of art in home in observance of World AIDS Day. Wear Until Bracelets to The Abbey to share tree-lighting ceremony with those individuals.
- Get decorations from storage and decorate for the holidays. Work at leisurely pace, playing Christmas carols and holiday movies while unpacking and decorating.
- Test holiday lights and safely dispose of any strings of lights that are compromised. Replace as necessary.
- John set up train diorama at foot of Christmas tree.
- Host annual White Christmas viewing party. Serve cheese board, artichoke dip, and fondue with black bread, dried fruit, and salumi along with California wine and Black Russians.
- Shop small businesses for holiday gifts. Musts: Candle Delirium, Body Factory, Spitfire Girl, Wacko Soap Company, Co-Op 28, Y-Que Trading Post, Skylight Books, The Train Shack, and Burbank House of Hobbies.
- Make raspberry bars, toffee bars, and Divinity for John's office holiday party. Bring jars of jalapeno vodka and Bloody Mary mix for the gift exchange.
- Buy gift cards for gardener, handyman, hair stylists, and mail carrier.
- Make memory pages for everyone who visited us in LA in 2016.
- Make pilgrimage to See's Candies for holiday candy both for home and for gift boxes.
- Prepare and mail holiday parcels by December 15, cards by December 20.
- Splurge on annual holiday dinner at The Smokehouse. Musts: correctly quartinoed martini, garlic bread, taking in the history of this legendary supper club.
- Go outside on Yule. Light candles, feed wildlife, water and feed plants in the moonlight.
- Make and cure gravlax and pick up bagels and cream cheese for traditional Christmas breakfast of bagels all the way.
- Make country ham, biscuits, green beans, and John's favorite, baklava, for Christmas dinner.
- Make New Year's Eve reservations at The Dresden Room and The Palermo.
- Hint unashamedly for tickets to a Lakers game for my birthday next month.
