Here are some of our plans for the transitional month of
February at Urban Home Blog.
- Celebrate Candlemas by lighting entire home with candles, baking a lemon pound cake, and making an offering of blackberries to the California laurel.
- Start posies in seed pots. This year: black pansies, grape hyacinth, and raspberries.
- Work with gardener to trim and dust lemon and tangerine trees.
- Follow up with human services and conservation organizations to see if there are pressing donation needs for winter / early spring.
- Watch Rachel Carson documentary on American Experience. Have copy of Silent Spring. on hand during viewing.
- Go on photo safari in DTLA to include Angel's Flight, GrandCentral Market, Little Tokyo, City Hall, and Union Station.
- Go on annual photo safari on Hollywood Boulevard while it is being prepared for the Academy Awards.
- Utilize Instagram and ViewBug to share photos and to determine which photos to use as trail run for a memory book service.
- Attend California train show with John for Valentine's Day, to be capped off, appropriately, with dinner at The Smokehouse.
- Rotate new mattress at the sixty day mark, and every sixty days thereafter.
- Schedule annual rug and upholstery cleaning.
- Finalize organizing tax documents in preparation for appointment with tax professional.
- Host informal Academy Awards viewing party. Theme movie: Mildred Pierce. Menu: chicken and waffles (Mildred Pierce), California greens, and pie. At the bar: dry martini (Monty Beragon) and Scotch (Wally Faye).
