- Celebrate Labor Day by meeting friends at The Pikey, screening Picnic, and planning itinerary for Harvest Weekend in the Santa Ynez Valley.
- Go through pantry. Discard / donate safe but outdated staples. Replenish in anticipation of autumn and winter cooking and baking. Buy an extra bag of groceries for the local food bank.
- Attend Los Angeles County Fair. Spend day in Domestic Arts pavilion while John visits model train displays. Meet at Dr. Bob's for annual fairground ice cream cone.
- Make and can concord grape jam, apple cider jelly, chow-chow.
- Wash down patio and rock wall. For Mabon, string rock wall with grape vines and spend one twilight on patio burning candles and sage to welcome the change of seasons.
- Check houseplants for signs of seasonal adjustment; trim, feed, water, refresh top soil accordingly.
- Meet John in Woodland Hills one Friday afternoon to buy fall/winter work clothes. From there, drive to Buellton in time for dinner at the Hitching Post in anticipation of Harvest Weekend.
- Order autumn coffee online: Black Vinyl and Red Room, McNulty's French Roast Java and Pumpkin Spice.
- Hang vintage movie posters in newly painted bathroom, hallway, and kitchen.
- Conduct seasonal closet changeover including selecting items for consignment or donation, inventorying bed and bath linens, and unpacking woolens for hand-washing.
- Change batteries in smoke detectors and weather station.
- Wash and disinfect bed pillows, pillow covers, comforters, and quilts. Disinfect and flip mattress.
- Take car to dealership for bi-annual service.
